Recca -PURE-

Recca was developed as a competition game for an event called “Summer Carnival” in 1992 for the Famicom. The game was never released in America until more recently, appearing on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Recca is incredibly tough and insanely fast as far as NES games go. There are essentially two version of this game that are programmable onto an NES cart. For the purists, there is a straight up port of the original with some English translation. The one that I prefer and shown in the video below is known as Recca -PURE- and has a few additional features, most notably is the Zanki Attack mode which gives you 50 lives to complete the game, but is absurdly difficult and all the enemies explode into projectiles when you shoot them.

RECCA

  1. I recently received my Recca cart from Gorilla Games, and not only is this a radical video game, but the quality of the cart I received was excellent. I’m very pleased. Has a cool label, and the price is fair.

If you’re a fan of vertical shooters, or if you just like super cool and interesting games, Recca is a must own. This game really pushes the limits of what your nes is capable of. You’ll swear you’re playing an early pc engine shooter. Be warned however, this game is difficult. It doesn’t feel pity, or pain, or remorse and it absolutely will not stop, until you are dead. And it may cause seizures.

  2. Terrifying and yet, oh so fun.
